BIVDA Press Release - UK Rare Diseases Framework
BIVDA Statement on UK Rare Disease Framework
BIVDA Chief Executive Doris-Ann Williams has welcomed the publication of the UK Rare Diseases Framework.
The Framework lists the priorities and underlying strategic themes that detail how the UK will address the challenges faced by those living with rare diseases, with four high-level priorities for action over the next five years:
- Helping patients get a final diagnosis faster;
- increasing awareness of rare diseases among healthcare professionals;
- better coordination of care;
- improving access to specialist care, treatments and drugs.
Commenting on the Framework, Doris-Ann said;
“I welcome the publication of this document, which sets out how patients with rare diseases can expect to receive faster diagnosis and treatment for their conditions. As the trade association for the UK in-vitro diagnostic industry, our members will play a critical role in developing and delivering the testing innovations that will be used to identify these illnesses quickly and accurately.
BIVDA and our members will be working closely with the Government and NHS on the implementation of the Framework, and we look forward to seeing progress over the coming months.”
