The BIVDA Executive Board comprises elected representatives, Chairs of the Corporate Members Groups for the Association for Laboratory Medicine  and Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS), and the BIVDA representative on the MedTech Europe Board. Elected representatives serve a term of 3 years, but can be put up for re-election.

Expertise

Guided by a board of industry leaders, the team consists of subject matter experts with deep expertise in the diagnostic industry, including – but not limited to – regulation, procurement, development, policy, and external affairs. This expertise is deployed on behalf of members to support as required, from shaping the future legislative landscape to resolving complex regulatory challenges.

Experience

Our team’s rich experience – including leading major diagnostic programmes within NHS and government – has provided huge exposure to key influencers across the life science landscape. BIVDA pride ourselves on our relationships, working closely with the UK government and arms-length bodies, policy makers, politicians, the media, and the NHS.

External Affairs

Our role as the voice of the industry includes the dissemination of policy briefings, providing evidence to Parliamentary select committees, responding to Government consultations, facilitating communication between BIVDA members and policy makers and providing information and advice about the IVD industry to the wider community.

Engagement

BIVDA’s greatest strength is our nearly 250 members. We represent members across the entire diagnostic landscape – from small start ups looking to bring innovative products to market, to multi-national corporations with significant global market share. Our springboard programme assists new entrants to the market, in partnership with a leading UK bank. BIVDA membership provides unrivalled opportunities to collaborate and learn.

End Users

At the heart of all we do is the end user – patients. We take pride in collaborating with members and partners to ensure that in vitro diagnostics play their part not just in the diagnosis of conditions, but in prevention and treatment of disease too. To be involved in saving lives, improving health outcomes, and reducing health inequality is a privilege all at BIVDA recognise.

Strategy

Our primary aim is to promote and support the IVD industry, which includes medical devices and diagnostic tests used in the laboratory or at the point of care. BIVDA works to create an operating environment that helps members to develop and improve their products, succeed in the global market, and contribute to better healthcare outcomes for patients.

Our Vision

To drive, influence and shape the future of diagnostics for patients, ensuring that innovation, safety, continuity of supply and competition is paramount in clinical and purchasing decisions at a national, international and local level through 4 pillars of strategic focus.

Our priorities are to:

Promote the value and effectiveness of IVDs in clinical pathway optimisation to improve health outcomes and maximise NHS resources.

Ensure fair and equitable access to markets for all member companies through policy and process influence.

Provide members with the necessary information and tools for IVD Regulation, Sustainability, Equality and Diversity and Social Value.

Leads BIVDA’s senior scientific, government and NHS engagement and responsible for BIVDA’s strategy and policy development on In Vitro Diagnostics, trade and parliamentary activity.

    We provide access to Parliament through BIVDA’s place on the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Life Sciences.

    We advocate powerfully for members' interests, being active across the life science space and represented at key government and industry forums.

    BIVDA works nationally and internationally with bodies from the NHS and UK government to the FDA and EU to ensure UK policy and regulation is fit for purpose, encourages innovation, and members’ views are represented.
