The UK Government announced new trade measures to support Ukraine following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. These include:
 
•    The removal of tariffs on all goods from Ukraine, providing economic support; 
•    New export ban on products and technology that Russia could use to repress the people of Ukraine. These could include interception and monitoring equipment;
These tariff measures are part of broad UK economic support to Ukraine, including £1bn in loan guarantees. International Trade Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan met Ukrainian Ambassador to the UK Vadym Prystaiko in London last week to reiterate the UK’s support for Ukraine. 
 
On Thursday 21 April, the Trade Secretary and Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak also announced further trade sanctions against Russia, expanding the list of products facing import bans and increasing tariffs. These include import bans on silver, wood products and high-end products from Russia such as caviar. The UK will also increase tariffs by 35% on around £130m worth of products from Russia and Belarus, including diamonds and rubber. 

Also announced this week is a donation of new ambulances, fire engines, funding for health experts and life-saving medical supplies. Frontline medical aid charity, UK-Med, will receive funding – worth up to £300,000 – from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to help train Ukrainian doctors, nurses and paramedics on how to deal with mass casualties. They will also set up mobile health clinics to support the most vulnerable civilians remaining in Ukraine, including the elderly and young children. The UK is also supplying £300,000 worth of medicines and pharmaceutical supplies to UK-Med which could support a hospital for up to six weeks.

More than five million medical items have been donated to Ukraine including wound packs, intensive care equipment and medicines.

UK-Med CEO David Wightwick who’s currently in Eastern Ukraine said: “This very welcome funding from the UK government will enable us to continue to deliver primary health care and lifesaving specialist clinical training in both the east and the west of the country, reaching those who need it most.”
