Amanda Pritchard has been selected as the new Chief Executive of NHS England (NHSE). Ms Pritchard is to take over from the previous NHSE CEO Lord Simon Stevens, who steps down from his role after seven years in the position. Lord Stevens is to officially leave his role at the end of this week, making way for the first female Chief Executive of the NHS since its creation in 1948. Ms Pritchard has worked as the organisation’s Chief Operating Officer for the last two years, and is the former boss of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation Trust in London. From 2005 to 2006, she also worked in the Prime Minister's Delivery Unit.

Other candidates who were in contention for the role were Mark Britnell, a KPMG partner, and Tim Riordan, Chief Executive of Leeds City Council. The decision to appoint Ms Pritchard is expected to be confirmed by the Prime Minister Boris Johnson imminently, and BIVDA looks forward to a close relationship with her, promoting the adoption and benefits of IVDs in the UK healthcare system
